Putting Ourselves In The Picture Past

A co-commission by Fabrica Gallery with Project Art Works as part of the EXPLORERS project, exhibition guest-curated by Outside In.

Fabrica Gallery, Brighton,
Wednesday 7 to Sunday 18 August 2019 – Marc Steene and Cornelia Marland

Outside In is delighted to be involved in Putting Ourselves In The Picture this summer, which will see Sussex-based art organisations join forces to tackle the question ‘who gets to create art and why?’

It will see Fabrica, Brighton’s Centre for Contemporary Art, open its doors to provide an accessible studio and temporary gallery for artists of all ages, levels and abilities to access. Work created in the studio space will also then be showcased in a series of exhibitions at Fabrica for the public to experience.

The charity’s director and founder Marc Steene will work with Outside In’s exhibitions coordinator Cornelia Marland to guest-curate the exhibition running from 7 to 18 August, 2019. The result will work to showcase Outside In’s fair and ethical approach to exhibition selection which ‘sidesteps the cherry picking and art world influence that often determines who is able to exhibit their work’.
