I was born in Mogadishu in Somalia. In 1991 war broke out I was in school and was 9 years old. We fled and I came here in 2002. I was disadvantaged because of my immigration status, I couldn’t study or work so I started drinking heavily until I ended up in prison after prison. Coming to prison opened my eyes and started my beloved subject art. I read Old Master’s Monet, Picasso, Cezanne, Rembrandt, Pissarro and so but I usually love painting my own style Cubist which is inspired by Picasso and changing my own style. Art to me is more than a hobby because I started at a very young age – 6, 7, 8 years old. But I used to speak to older artists for help. They used to help or sometimes laugh at me because I was too young for art.
