I am an artist working in rural Scotland who has a variety of health issues. I am the sole carer for my husband who also has many health issues. I have worked for many years within the visual arts field , most recently as an artist/printmaker, although I can no longer make prints without the help of a technician. As I find it difficult to leave my husband, I now work mainly in my studio/workshop at home, so concentrate on small printed works (monoprints mainly) and painting and drawing. I like to explore other media but am always drawn back to painting, drawing and printmaking! I find it very hard to keep myself (and my husband, who works with silver) motivated and stimulated, but feel so much better when I DO work- and I know my husband does too! Inspiration for my work comes now from things within my daily life and is influenced by the natural world around me and the rhythms and changes that the seasons and the weather bring. I love colour, form and pattern and look for these in everything – nuances and combinations of colour and shape, patterns of objects and landscape. I also like to respond to the challenge of working to a set (by someone else!) theme or brief. I find this makes me look at my work anew and forces me to respond in a different way that takes me beyond the easy and familiar.
