“I like drawing and painting, and making my paintings stand out. I like selling my artwork to people at exhibitions.”
Alison’s work is usually large and very bright and colourful, often featuring animals. She likes using the right colours so that it ‘stands out’ and using textures on the paintings. She is always surprised when she sees her work finished.
Alison is the co founder of ArtStudio01 Artists collective and first started painting when she met artist Tanya Raabe-Webber in 2014 when they joined forces to set up ArtStudio01.
Ideas for her artwork come from her collection of art books, paintings she sees during visits to art galleries and paintings she looks up on her tablet. Alison draws her ideas in to her sketchbook in pencil or onto paper using pastels. She likes to discuss what colours she is going to use before mixing them and painting onto her canvas. She then paints with bright colours sometimes layering several colours on top of one another before she achieves the colour that she likes best. Alison then uses paint pens to create what she calls ‘ticks and flicks’. This technique creates textures and patterns giving her paintings a great sense of vibrancy and movement making her paintings ‘stand out’ as she wants them too.
