From the artist:
This is a hand embroidered textile/mixed media collage that focusses on the idea of how technology and the choices it provides allows us to edit our 'reality', so that it only reflects back to us that which we wish to see and that which we wish to project. We do this through our phones and computers which give us access to social media to choosing the TV programmes we wish to watch and perhaps binge on. By doing this, we become more and more skewed in our view of the world and perhaps in turn, more unable to deal with the challenges that 'reality' presents to us. This editing or wish fulfilling reminded me of the legend of the Djinn, or Genie, an entity made from smoke and fire that would grant three wishes, but nearly always with trickery and a hidden cost involved. I feel that the media and materials used reflect a paradox to the issue of technology and the theme the piece explores by being created entirely by human hand and therefore inherently containing the very flaws and imperfections that we might use technology to try and hide.
