Bea Roberts’ mixed media paintings are a schizophrenic merging of techniques and ideas resulting in a raw, primitive style. Working intuitively and spontaneously she uses collagraph printing techniques, brushes, sticks and other implements, as well as pens, pastels and collage, to create her surreal and sometimes slightly disturbing paintings.
Bea is a survivor, and her work often draws on autobiographical themes as well as her current interests and aspirations. A self-taught artist, Bea uses her art as catharsis, enabling her to work through traumatic events she has experienced during a relationship in the past.
She still often suffers flashbacks, anxiety and depressive periods, but Bea’s says her art helps to reduce stress and helps her to heal from the trauma of the past.
