From the artist:
I found four discarded light bulbs in the Bethlem hospital tip. They were very fragile. I began to bind them with strips of fabric (curtains, sheets and clothes), wool, thread and string. The light bulbs changed and expanded as the layers built up. By binding them I hoped to transform their value from junk to an object in a gallery. Binding has many associations: bandaging injuries, swaddling a child, wrapping the dead before burial. To me it means protection. One of a series of four. These lightbulbs were part of my research residency at Bethlem Gallery looking at art and value. There were exhibited June - August 2019.
