I paint and draw. I also suffer fom an abundance of acronyms: CFS, PTSD, EIPD… painting keeps me on a relatively even keel.
Colour is my inspiration: from the intensity of a rich violet to the mystery of deep forest green, every hue has its own seductive note. Each painting is a journey which begins with the interplay of two or three colours, poured and splashed onto a surface. The flow and blending of the colours suggest shapes which lead me into the realm of story. I challenge myself to stay true to the images and forms I see in the swirls of paint whilst developing a balanced composition. As I separate one from from another I look for a satisfying tension between hard and soft edges, splashes and paint runs and crisply rendered form. The final image gradually emerges through a marriage of accident with precise delineation.
