From the artist:
This was the second piece of my Renaissance series. The heart is a collage made from the gold and silver packages from the 7,600 items of medication which I take in the course of a year. The medication is the protection I have against organ rejection and the image represents another year of life after my heart transplant of 2013. The cycle of a single heartbeat is depicted in the thirty small MRI images of my heart which encircle the central image of the heart. These images are the frames of a moving image series which show the heart's movement in the course of a single heartbeat, rather like the frames of a strip of movie film. Individually, the movement is imperceptible, yet they live and move when seen in real time, and the heart beats away unnoticed within - approximately forty-seven million times each year.
