Five years ago I found out that I have degenerative disc disease in my lower back, the last four lower discs on my spinal column, the cartilage has worn away between my discs and it is too dangerous to operate so I have been left in chronic pain. If I bend or turn suddenly and the discs touch each other I get an electric shock down my spine. The chronic pain has now spread to both hips. And I find it hard to walk. I am now on really strong medication so I am able to move about throughout the day. I am also a carer for my 17-year-old autistic son who is built like a gladiator, and very strong. One push and I’ll be on the floor. When he says no he means NO!!
I rarely go out of the house, unless going to hospital appointments so I needed to find something that gave me hope and worthiness in this world. I decided to try painting and was amazed at how it helps to block out the pain and takes me to a wonderful place where I can just sit in my own thoughts and create expressions of myself through art. I like to paint abstractly, playing with fluid movements and texture and color.
I hope you will be able to see in each piece I create, the wonderful release and pleasure painting has given me.
