I used to make v realistic paintings but found the process quite stressful because I knew exactly how I wanted the image to turn out and struggled with achieving this. I now get the most enjoyment from creating abstract images, exploring the initial inspiration and just letting the image develop, trying not to think about it too much. There is usually a link to the Natural World but sometimes inspiration is found in the strangest places such as the washing up! I used to use only acrylics but now really enjoy adding parts of photos I have taken, texture from natural items. I particularly love using metallic and pearlescent paints on black backgrounds because this makes the colours shine and the picture changes as the light in the room changes. Sadly these effects do not show well in the photos.
