From the artist:
I have travelled much during my life and lived In Australia at one point for 2 years. Part of the reasons to travel was to see new horizons and meet people from different cultures. New experiences always expand my being. As a result of my travels I took always made sure I took a small pocket sized sketchbook to record my journeys visually. This piece was created when I was camping in Devon on a Buddhist Retreat. Trees are incredible. They give us shelter from the wind and rain, and convert CO2 into oxygen so we can live and breathe. They are firmly rooted yet easily swayed which is a perfect metaphor for us humans to strive for. No two trees that are the same, they are completely individual entities. I was interested in capturing this through the many different shapes and colours in this painting. The trees gather together as one as well. Due to my background in science and the study of horticulture, I know that every tree communicates through underground fungi networks called mycorrhizae. Its the "wood-wide web" the internet of the plant world and much more intelligent than our equivalent! Trees work together to look after each other through this network. These gorgeous and magnificent trees were my shelter and family whilst on the retreat. I felt to pay homage to them by capturing this.
