From the artist:
The natural world fascinates me as an artist. Its full of colours, new growth that transforms into decay and has millions of different forms, shapes and textures. I am completely in awe of it, and I have been studying and observing nature all my life. This painting is one of those moments of study and detailed description of a spring lilac. I endeavoured to capture every bud and flower opening on this newly birthed stem. Along with the varying hues of pink, from the intense purple of closed buds to the soft pink of odorous flowers. It may seem sterile to paint it alone out of its natural environment, yet a study is a way of looking closely at an object in relationship with itself. I was able to fully appreciate all the subtlety and intricate details.
