A Bedtime Story #1 2020 (C-type print traditionally hand coloured with water colour paint.)
“My self-portraits are all created within the same 2 by 1.5 meter space; my bed. Within this space, where I am so often unwell and alone, I now have the strength to explore my ongoing struggles with mental illness. I am afraid of showing my face within my work, so used the eye upon my chest, as a sign to symbolize and portray my emotional state. I believe a crying eye to not only be a symbol of sadness, but a depiction of the natural rhythm of tears, in particular how tears are inextricably entwined and are often a vital part of the healing process.
(This self-portrait was created pre pandemic, my health has worsened significantly since this image and I know find myself completely bedbound and unable to leave home)
