From the artist:
Mother Earth kneeling at the alter of a burning tree, cradling her baby. measurements are canvas unframed. This was painted during a sensory overload where I was feeling like this planet or society wasn’t made for me and then as I began painting my environment on fire I realised that I was painting the ocean under flames and the woman kneeling wasn’t me and I wasn’t holding my autism which I feel is a separate entity to me like a lost child, cradling it to soothe it - instead, she was attempting to care for her baby, our planet, but is helpless in the face of the overwhelm - in my case, the sensory overwhelm and in her case the fire and heat of the sun burning everything and turning it all to flames so it is only vast waters and fires. An animal looks on. Perhaps a cat, because I’m so often told I look like a cat, and religious and spiritual motifs exist in here too, during sensory overwhelm I fall into my art-making, it’s a transcendent experience for me.
