“The most important thing in spurring my creativity is finding the inspiration and an enthusiasm for what it is that I am painting. My curiosity of the sensuality and provocativeness evoked in fashion photography has led me to create paintings based on images from advertisements in popular fashion magazines. More recently I look to images of iconic men and women who captivate nations with their talent, good nature and beauty.”
Emily Nixon is a predominantly self taught and self disciplined artist, encouraged to engage her creativity from a young age by family, friends and teachers. She graduated from the University of Gloucestershire in 2010 with a BA in Fine Art and has been working at MK Gallery as PA to the Director, and Events Co-ordinator since Summer 2011 whilst continuing her art practice at home.
“I have always been inspired and intrigued by the work of Gustav Klimt amongst other artists within the Art Nouveau period. I find myself particularly drawn to photographs of subjects that are captured in unusual poses and postures. My work is a combination of studies from photographs I have digitally manipulated, linear images, unusual angles and negative space. I endeavour to create pieces that stimulate the viewer’s emotions and sensations.
There is nothing more satisfying or exhilarating than creating a piece of work you are truly proud to call your own.”
