I’m a self-taught artist and have been creating work like this for the last seven years. My process is to listen to jazz music as an immersive experience. This helps me to focus my vision and block everything out. I lose myself in the painting and the musical instruments. Each sound creates the movement of my marks, and shapes. Whilst I’m painting its as if I’m being conducted to create the lines and the finished artwork. I listen to all kinds of jazz: mellow jazz, lounge jazz, classical jazz and jazz funk. The vivid colours and geometric shapes are intuitive to me. I choose a base colour and then choose another to match and go with the flow. I used to create up to eight paintings a day, this has now become much more intricate and concentrated.
