My paintings are quite varied and would be easy to misconstrue as the work of several people. This, I attribute to my previous employment as both a scenic artist for television and then as a painter of miniatures in books of Remebrance. Scale is an interesting component to consider in ones work.
I paint in a loose, free manner, sometimes underpinned by a more graphic considered sketch. I may work from imagination or choose to research a subject on my radar at the time. I believe in playing with the materials and hopefully discovering new directions in which to guide the work. I like to take risks during the application of paint as it can often bring the painting to life. Accidents and stains can be the best part of my paintings. I like a work that presents a sense of mystery. Gail Britt.
