At the start of creative being I struggled on numerous occasions to find spirit as an artist. I was trying to emulate artists who’s work I saw in other galleries & museums.
However I found freedom to be when on an Access Course.
when working on a cityscape project. Being able to paint in my own style to make ceramics and use various mediums without restrictions was amazing.
Since then my worked has moved forward in a positive way improving all the time Yet obviously going through fazes and subjects. My love of city scape & architecture followed by my interest in dance especially tango. As my methods of working practice changed. To not just using paint but including found objects and the use of textile in my work. Therefore the creative process in my pieces relating to Vikings included the use of beer can pieces of wood & textile.
While my two seascapes Gower Coast & Kite Flying I have used items collected from the actual beach. As well as pieces of brick a brac, even an actual miniature whisky bottle. Also purposely made textiles.
Therefore at this present moment I would Identify myself more as a textile artist as my work has moved more in this direction. And I have a number of projects in progress such as a Wall Hanging telling a Journey a series of deconstructed & reconstructed garments that include poetry & image. But also several smaller pieces of textile works.
The most important fact in my creative journey was to discover that a relative on my mothers side the family Danish Artist Folmer Bendtsen (deceased).
Became established and recognised as an artist in his own lifetime & has work in the collection of one of the countries museums. This followed his working life as a seafarer also a rag & bone man.
And now thanks to Outside In and there help and support I now have work on a website and the opportunity to liaise with people for professional advice.
