From the artist:
This weaving was made in response to attending the Outside In Step Up: Exploring Collections Course at The Wellcome Collection, London. As a starting point for our research, we were asked to choose one object from the Medicine Man exhibition. I chose a Japanese acupuncture figure, about half life-size, made of white paper mâché. I constructed the white paper weaving (using Japanese paper yarn), to represent the network of lines (meridians) used in acupuncture and juxtaposed this with a cut-out figure which shows a modern acupuncture diagram of the meridian lines traced on. I wanted the weaving to be double-sided, as the human body is not flat and to show how the meridians run through the body, unseen by the untrained eye and hand.
