James trained in fine art at Falmouth School of Art and printmaking at Wimbledon School of Art. After years of relative artistic inactivity and struggles with mental illness he received invaluable support from Outside In, Creative Response, Richmond Fellowship – Art Matters, Surrey & Borders Arts Therapies Department, Landscapes of the Mind at Woking’s Lightbox and Ochre Print Studio. Starting a different medication in 2013 was transformative, eliminating anxiety and depression while investigations into continuing fatigue problems revealed the iron overload disorder Hereditary Haemochromatosis. Although still experiencing what people with HH describe as “brain fog” James now works on exchange for Ochre Print Studio with the exhibitions team and managing the studio’s social media profile. He is also an ambassador for Outside In.
