I am a fine artist specialising in figurative oil painting. My work explores the absence of expression in media images, and how this not only fixates the viewer but also creates a sense of artifice within them.
I am also interested in the context of the human face and how we perceive beauty.
‘The Human Face’ by John Brophy, has been particularly informative to my current practice. He states that ‘The more lively the face, the more it is transformed by the mutability of it’s expressions’. A pose can make the face look more beautiful, yet it is not transformed by expression; the face is beautiful because it is expressionless.
