I started to learn tapestry weaving as a way to incorporate mindfulness and creativity into my daily life. My design ideas have developed from my interest in quantum physics. From the most fundamental, subatomic aspect of reality, our complex world has materialised over time. It is this concept which has inspired my process of making watercolour drip paintings and then observing as the woven images based on these slowly emerge. I often find that the resultant tapestries have a landscape quality. Quantum theory embodies randomness and I link to this by painting and weaving intuitively, allowing accidental marks to remain and by selecting the threads according to how the piece develops. Conscious of environmental issues, for my miniature weavings, I use up yarn left over from previous work.
