From the artist:
I stumbled across this rock whilst beach combing along the coast from Staithes. Its pattern, composition and colours intrigued me. I took a photograph which I used later for reference. On closer inspection I realised that it was formed of various encased shells including oysters, their tops obviously being sliced off when the rock fragmented. It was like the past environment had revealed itself to the current one, both having being altered after shifts in time.
