From the artist:
This is a photo montage of my creative space at home, an environment where I can paint, make and play with techniques and materials. It is often messy and cluttered but everything I need is close to hand. It is invaluable to me to have a space where I don't always have to clear up and can return to what I am doing, whenever I can. I spend a lot of time at home as I have a long-term illness. I live in the centre of Brighton on a main road with a beautiful view of the Pavilion but it is also a busy, noisy and polluted environment. The outer environment is impossible to ignore and I have used the windows to bring that impact into the piece. I have used different sizes and perspectives of photos to express how my home can feel to me at different times - comfortable, inviting and colourful but also oppressive and over-whelming. There are reflections of me in one of the windows, looking both inward and outward, representing my different states of mind. The chairs are empty giving a feeling of loneliness and isolation. The plants help to improve the quality of my surroundings and there are playful aspects such as a floating laptop and a falling book.
