From the artist:
Plastic Sea is a collage of ‘messages in bottles’. Once someone would throw a glass bottle in the sea in the hopes it would be found. It might be broken and eventually become sea glass. The messages in these bottles are more sinister. A cry for help of a different kind, as the ocean becomes choked with plastic that will never break down. This piece is mixed media, incorporating pages from one of my own novellas, written about a period of psychosis I experienced in Spain. The text is shaped and incorporated with oil pastel and ink drawing. I was thinking about how at one time, in desperation, people would cork a 'Help,' message into a bottle. At worst, the bottle would smash and eventually become sea glass. Now the sea and sea life are in danger, choked by the plastic tossed into them. The situation is desperate.
