Using art and craft as part of my work, as well as my hobby, took on a greater significance and importance after coming out of a coma. Since then I have a need to create something on a regular basis.
My main focus revolves around the abstracted human form, to display movement and emotion, contortion and containment, which results in a distortion of form using curves, coils, shadows and symbolistic patterns. This may be as simple black pen drawings, or vividly coloured collage figures or as sculptural forms. I work quickly and rarely do sketches or plans first. My work has a very raw look to it, but i hope to express the excitement and tension that lies behind the birth of each one.
I work from home, sometimes at the kitchen table, other times adapting my living room so I can. Some work though has to be done outside in my tiny and full garden shed.
