have always enjoyed being creative. I studied art at school but had
little confidence in my ability and felt that the teachers did not have
the time to provide the nurturing I needed. At 21 I studied for an A’
Level in Art, surprising myself with what I was capable of. But
regrettably due to a deterioration in my mental health my self-esteem
was so low I was unable to sit the final exam.
Music and poetry are a passion of mine. I love choosing a typeface to
illustrate my interpretation of the lyricists’ point of view before
painting the words onto a t-shirt.
I have also enjoyed working with FIMO but currently I am working on a
piece at Creative Response; which is a bit of an experiment, and a test
of my aptness to work with oil paint.
Thank you to Mike Prinsep and all at Creative Response for allowing me
to find my feet, my voice, and for giving me the opportunity, the desire
and encouragement to create. I have come to realise self-expression is
paramount to my existence.
Special thanks to Barbara for being my ‘Emotional Scaffolding’, and for
lending the piece back to me to be photographed.
Finally, love and respect to the memory of Sam Haigh – a very special
person and a talented artist who gave me so much advice and support at
school, and who I sincerely wish could still be here, expressing herself
in her own beautifully unique way.
