Hello, my name is Jennifer ❤️ and here is a little about me.
I have always been creative from an early age as I was brought up in the era of make do and mend. Lots of homemade toys and being creative with whatever was available in our home.
As we all do, I grew up and my life took me in a different direction away from being creative but I worked with people from a wide range of ages and groups which I loved.
Creativeness has and will always be a part on me, it’s who I am so when in 2015 my health took a turn well this affected me physically and emotionally, I looked for something to do. Being that I was housebound I was a bit stuck then I thought of what makes me happy, my creative side.
I got all my materials and paints and started using them. I made Cushions and Wheatbags which my friends got for the next couple of years as presents. They didn’t seem to mind and this gave me a great sense of self and put on a journey of self-discovery to rebuild my life as a newer and truer vision of myself.
My health took another turn so I was again stuck in my home and while I got my head around my new circumstances, I went online and bought paper, paint, pencils and everything I needed to start to paint and just painted. It was a great way of expressing myself and having something to do to help me move forward. I found I did it every day and I loved the colours and maybe my pictures weren’t everyone’s cup of tea but hey ho I loved them.
This led on to me feeling ready to find out more and I started looking for art classes but they were all six weeks and that isn’t something I wanted so I left it but by chance I found out about an art class that you could go to when you wanted. Well that’s right up my street so I started going once a month, then twice and I really loved it.
It really helped me and I grew confident in my work. It was a great year and I loved it as each time was different and I felt as a person it helped me not be hard on my work and just enjoy it.
So now I paint and keep it calm and easy. I use watercolour as it does what it wants and your best laid plans can just go out the window but in a good way. I do use acrylics in some of my paintings but my first love is watercolour.
When it comes to paper, I keep it simple using A3, A4. I draw, paint what I feel, see or anything I love and talks to me. I love colour and trees as they are in a lot of my paintings.
I’m not keen on being restrictive as I feel doing what you love is the best thing (that’s maybe just me) I am always open to new things in my painting and that’s why I did an online course on art therapy which was amazing.
It bought out a lot of different things in me and my painting and I found it really helped and gave a direction to work towards with my emotional and physical state of mind and body.
My art is always different and I’m still learning and get the benefits and joy it brings to my life as the name says, My Art Unfolding.
This has helped me start sharing my art more and how I came across Outside in and with their support decided to share my art. I am not saying it’s easy doing this but I think it is the right step to having all my art in one place instead of my draws and walls. Also, a place to come to for myself and anyone where my art may talk to you and help you though a bad day.
(I’m aware it was more than a little about me but thanks for reading)
