Philippa’s favourite medium is paint. Philippa works on large areas, covering much space in a short amount of time with bold brush strokes. She then goes over it again adding delicate finer details that give her work a real depth.
Sometimes she adds other materials to her work to create layered collages taking time to consider the shape and size of each individual piece by holding and feeling it’s weight and size, before adding it to the background.
The choice of colour often reflects her mood and what is going on in her life outside of her painting. The concentrated blocks of isolated black colour reflect frustration and anger. They appear isolated and disconnected from the rest of canvas drawing parallels with loneliness and alienation.
