I am an Observer, ‘Imaginator’, and Maker. I am intrigued by the this world that we so freely inhabit and call our own. Yet, just as intrigued as I am by our multifaceted surroundings, I am also drawn to the intrinsic landscape of the mind; a place that is always new, yet comfortingly familiar. Soaked in the thoughts and desires of our innermost being, the mind is the only place we can truly call our own. You could call it our only true place of rest, our only true home.
Home, it is a place we know all too well, or do we? Through my explorations I have discovered an enlightening and beautiful rabbit hole in which we are all universally and magnetically drawn. For some it evokes a flurry of emotion, for others it is more certain than the air they breath. For me it is the tangled roots from which I have come, with no one certain place of origin. The heart of these concepts deal with home, displacement, and belonging.
It is intriguing how they connect with the world around, as well as within my personal life; having been bounced from country to country for the majority of my young life. Now as an adult I am endeavoring to recreate the plethora of mental constructions that form this place.
Although many questions have arisen regarding the concept of home it is evident that the definition is subjective. Home is not defined by physical walls, but constructed within the depths of our minds. Personalized to perfection, as the one place that affords complete knowledge and acceptance of oneself. Home provides security and comfort even identity. It is erected from our mental securities and fabricated to suit the individual. My work is a self-determined exploration into my own sub-conscious with the intention to bridge the gap between us all regarding this concept. To bring forth both the pain and joy associated with this sacred place, so that we may wrestle and study it with all our hearts, minds, and souls to better understand our origins.
