Acrylic on canvas ‘Everyone is Welcome’ 7.9 x 6.61cm From a series of stream of conscious drawings, this is the first made into a painting. Liking small things inevitabley leads to small paintings. Small can still have an impact. The Corona virus for instance is microscopic yet has an impact far bigger than its physical scale. When things are smaller you have to look closer, Closer inspection engages the mind and can lead to new thinking and discovery. The characters look like friendly aliens, but I’d suggest they are humans, with thier peculiarities exposed. When you observe people closely, it soon becomes clear that no-one is without some some kind of mental, emotional, interlectual or physical anomaly. There is no true ‘normal’ We are essentially all odd bods in the same melting pot called life; Perhaps, if we broke out of judgement and became generally kinder, more tollerant and accepting of ourselves and each others percieved imperfections and differences, life would feel a lot friendlier, more interesting, more welcoming. more fun.
