I suffer from dyslexia and chronic fatigue syndrome and I have recently (in 2019) been assessed as having Aspergers syndrome. I also suffer with more miner conditions such as gout and insomnia (Insomnia seems to be the condition that I spend most of my time struggling with).
As I can not remember a time when I did not make art, it is a reasonable assertion that I was born an artist. There was a time (in the 1990s and 200s) when I gave up painting. Then however I took up creative writing and wrote about twenty short stories. I have also written poetry, song lyrics of a sort and a collection of essays about art and the arts.
I have also written and illustrated a children’s book, which I tried to get published, but found very little interest. My illustrations are made using uni ball pen and acrylic paint (sometimes I use black ink). often I finish them using Pixelmater (which is a program a bit like Photoshop). I have included a few examples of my illustrations in my gallery. If you would like to see more go to:
But fine art is my first and last love: I work on paper, card, canvas and canvas board, Using acrylic and water colour paint and uni ball pen or sometimes pencil. I also work by pasting coloured paper, or I paint the paper my self before cutting and pasting it.
I tend to paint very flat and stylised images partly because I am very interested in design, but also because I want my work to be its self and not a version of something ells.
I sometimes also use accidental or chance process. For example I might make decisions based on cards picked from a pack. I do not make a lot of fuss about this. It is just good to get away from my own thought process sometimes.
