Steve has devoted his life to his work in the hope that one day he will be able to exhibit it. Well he just has – at the Custard Factory in Birmingham as part of Arts all over the place 2011. Steve’s wish is not to sell his work, but simply to share it with others. Often labelled as controversial, Steve is trying to move away from this label and is wanting to bridge the gap betwen what is considered ‘normal’ and acceptable and what is not in art. Steve has been drawing since the age of three, and spent his childhood in a school for emotionally disturbed children. He tried to go to Art College in London, but with no skills in writing, he was forced into factory jobs in Birmingham. In 1983 he had his first psychotic episode and a second again in 1988, thus in 1990 he started painting exclusively. In Steve’s work he expresses how he feels about what is going on in his life.
