From the artist:
Almost Pollock-style in its beauty, this shows lichen on the rocks at St Ives in Cornwall. A symbiosis of algae and fungi, lichen can live for hundreds of years, growing slowly on their preferred surface. These ones have evolved to survive in a salty site but recent studies show that damage we have caused to the environment is having a detrimental effect on lichen and the creatures that rely on it to survive.
