My work is about appreciating the overlooked aspects of the everyday in the immediate environment. What strikes me is how surreal and extraordinary everyday life is – comedy, absurdity, tragedy, beauty, pathos, strangeness, etc – it’s everywhere in the ordinary visual world, and I hope to highlight this in my photography and film.
From my personal point of view I think my art work is more interesting and relevant when I observe and engage with the world outside of my inner world, so-to-speak. I reflect upon and am aware of my personal vision of the outside but it’s not pure subjectivity, it’s looking outside of myself to attempt to fully connect with the perspective of the perceived subject. As though I am looking at the subject looking back at me.
My most recent body of work is all digital media and I’m interested in exploring where the urban landscape collides with the rural landscape.
