A tribute to Heba Zaqout

Untitled, by Heba Zaqout

Outside In were saddened to learn that Heba Zaqout has passed away in Gaza in October 2023.

Born in 1984 in Gaza, Heba Zaqout was an acrylic artist. She worked as a public school teacher, while also painting joyful images of her surroundings. She participated in many exhibitions, and had a solo exhibition in 2021 entitled ‘My Children in Quarantine’.

“My paintings are full of Palestinian houses, minarets, domes and churches to emphasise the Palestinian identity and Palestinian existence.”

To lose an artist and part of our Outside In community in this senseless and cruel conflict is felt deeply by all at Outside In. Heba painted colourful and joyous images of her life and home, full of love and hope and with her passing the world is a little darker.
