The new virtual gallery exhibition Layers of Creativity showcases the works in Outside In’s collection as selected by curator Jo Baring.
Jo is the director of the Ingram Collection of Modern British & Contemporary Art, a former director of Christie’s UK and the co-host of the podcast ‘Sculpting Lives’ – which was recommended as a top arts podcast by the Royal Academy, Evening Standard and The Guardian among others.
She has also curated exhibitions at museums and galleries across the UK, is a fellow of The Royal Society of Arts and a trustee of the arts charities Artists Collecting Society and ArtCan.
Speaking about the Outside In exhibition, Jo said the selection process was an ‘absolute joy’.
“I was delighted by the sheer creativity of the works. It was so enticing to look through a collection which has a real breadth of materials being used in such an imaginative way,” she added. “I deliberately did not stick to a theme or a particular style; for me the enjoyment was in being surprised, seeing how these artists were using textiles, unusual materials, abstraction or traditional figuration to create works which moved me. I would encourage people to look through the Outside In collection themselves, and defy anyone not to find something they would happily have on their own walls!”
