Outside In is very grateful for the donation of work for auction by artist and Outside In Ambassador Stephen White, with funds going to support the work of the project.
Stephen’s work has been a part of numerous exhibitions both locally and nationally, and with influences from Willem de Kooning, George Baselitz, Frank Auerbach and the Scottish Colourists, he brings incredible originality to what he creates.
Stephen was a runner up in Outside In’s 2007 triennial exhibition, and he is now a prominent Ambassador, sharing his experiences and his journey with the project with a variety of audiences.
Money raised through the auction, conducted by Toovey’s on 5 May, will enable Outside In to continue to support artists facing barriers to the art world through exhibitions, training, and professional development opportunities. More specifically, money raised from Stephen’s auction will go towards developing and improving the Outside In website, so that we are able to promote and support the work of even more artists.
Stephen has said of the above images: “These pictures are objects in their own right. Abstract paint on hessian. I need a tune, like a jazz musician, as my starting point – in these cases, a mask. Then I embellish it with paint, just like a jazz musician embellishes a tune.”
“You see life as a view, and no one sees the same view as you. Just like no one sees your life quite like you do.”
The auction will be taking place on 5 May 2016 at Pallant House Gallery from 6pm. Click here for more information.
