It is with great sadness that we announce that Nigel Kingsbury passed away on 7 January 2016. Nigel was a man of very few words, but his art intrigued all those who saw it. His body of work of women in beautiful ball gowns is instantly recognisable, and he was always able to seek out women in his vicinity – whether on television or in person – for his next drawing. He was a gentle man with a cheeky side and a lovely smile. After being crowned an Award Winner in the Outside In: National exhibition in 2012, Nigel went on to have a solo show at the Gallery. He was part of Outside In’s ‘The Inner Self’ exhibition in London in 2014, winning a solo show at the Julian Hartnoll Gallery in London later that year, and he currently has work in the touring Jerwood Drawing Prize show. In 2015, Outside In took Nigel’s work to the Outsider Art Fair in Paris, and his art is now in key collections all over the world, including in London, Belgium and New York.
Pallant House Gallery sends its condolences to Nigel’s family, and to those at Action Space who have supported Nigel with his art making for over 10 years.
