Outside In popped along to see the new 'Hollow Space and Outgrowth' exhibition at The Bethlem Gallery last week and what a wonderful array of curiosities and art were on display! There are cabinets showcasing contemporary ceramics made within the hospital's creative studios, juxtaposed with medical apparatus from the Bethlem Museum's collection. The ceramics are small and detailed but powerful objects in their own right and everyone should see them. You may even get to meet the artists when you are there!
The exhibition takes the viewer on a journey through the meaning of objects, exploring the possible uses and narratives attached to them – be these personal, magical, fearful or practical.
Open now until 13th July 2012 – Wednesday – Friday, 11am – 6pm
Pop along for their Open Day on Saturday 7th July where Bethlem Gallery and Museum will both be open 12 – 5pm. It is their Sunfayre event which is their well loved annual fete, offering a day of live music, complementary therapies, children's entertainments and refreshments. Visitors are welcome to explore the Archives and Museum, visit the art gallery, take part in creative workshops, and have a picnic in the beautiful grounds.
