Last night (23 May 2019) saw the opening event and award presentation for the biennial Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize. This year, Outside In is one of the official partners with director Marc Steene among the prestigious panel of judges who were tasked with selecting the overall winner who was awarded £10,000.
More than a hundred of the self portrait submitted for the prize are currently on show in a four-month exhibition at Piano Nobile Kings Place. The works include portraits by Outside In’s John Joseph Sheehy and Graham Rees.
Outside In chairman Charles Rolls was among the attendees, he said: “It was an inspired decision of the organisers to include Outside In as charity partner and I was so pleased to see the two shortlisted self-portraits by our artists hanging in such excellent company.”
Graham Rees portrait was among the selected purchased by the Ruth Borchard Next Generation Collection – the UK’s only collection of self-portraits, while the overall prize went to David Dawson.
