The Inner Self: Drawings from the Subconscious

The next Outside In exhibition in London in September 2014 at CGP London is open for submissions for artists living within Greater London!

The exhibition (4-21 September 2014)

A group show of five artists living within Greater London, all working on a theme of the subconscious using drawing as a primary medium. The works will need to be predominantly black and white in colour.

Within this exhibition drawing can be taken to mean with a pen, pencil, thread, moving image, etc. – any form that the artist has chosen to make a line/s in 2D or 3D format.

Eight artists will be shortlisted, with five selected for the final exhibition in CGP London, Southwark Park. The amount of works shown by each artist will depend on the scale of the works themselves. A short film will be made about each artist to be shown on an iPad next to their work.

From these five artists one overall artist will be chosen as the Prize Winner to be announced at the opening. The Prize is a one week solo exhibition in October/November 2014 in the Julian Hartnoll Gallery on Duke Street, London. Curator of the Gallery, Vivienne Roberts, will be selecting the Prize Winner alongside Outside In and will help with the organisation of this exhibition.

Also in the space will be a small exhibition of monochrome works by Outsider Artist Nick Blinko, who is also one of the selectors for the exhibition. Nick Blinko's work is predominantly minutely detailed black and white works.

A series of events, talks and workshops run by our partner organisations will be happening alongside the exhibition, both within the exhibition space and in other partner venues across London.

How to submit

Each artist living within Greater London can submit two pieces of work each for consideration for the exhibition and a selection panel will go through each work digitally to make the selection. You can submit only one piece if you wish. There is no limit on size. Please be aware that you can change your mind on your submissions up until 5pm on 11 June 2014.

All of the selections happen digitally, so if you do not already have an Outside In online gallery then you will have to create one. Go to the ‘sign up’ tab on top of the Outside In website and follow the instructions. Please contact us if you have difficulty doing this or see the ‘need help’ section below.

If you already have an online gallery, log in to your page on the Outside In website. You can upload new works if you wish, or choose images on your online gallery already.

The submission process

Click ‘edit’ on the image you wish to submit. At the bottom of the page will be a tick box for you to enter the work for selection to the London exhibition. Make sure that you click ‘save’ before leaving the page. This will notify Outside In of your submission/s. You can of course upload new work to submit, rather than use work already on your page. A maximum of two submissions can be made. Please remember that the work needs to be predominantly black and white.

YOU MUST PUT IN THE DIMENSIONS AND MATERIALS USED FOR EACH PICTURE YOU ARE SUBMITTING.

If you change your mind on your submissions, you need to click ‘edit’ on the image already submitted, un-tick the box and press ‘save'. You can then go to the image that you would like to submit instead, click ‘edit’ and tick the box for that image instead.

Closing date for submissions is: 5pm on Wednesday 11 June 2014

Artists will be notified from week beginning: Monday 23 June 2014

Final selection made: Tuesday 1 July 2014

NB: All other artists who put work forward for selection will be featured within the exhibition space as part of a slide show (or similar opportunity).
