About Step Up training

Step Up training is Outside In’s training and professional development programme designed to support those facing barriers to the art world for reasons including health, disability, social circumstance or isolation. As part of the programme, Outside In works with partner arts organisations across the UK to deliver its five training courses: Exploring Collections, Leading Workshops, Curating Exhibitions, Talking about Art and Creative Writing.

The courses aim to support artists to gain the skills needed to find employment, self-employment or volunteering opportunities in the arts. These skills include researching, interpretation, planning and delivering creative workshops, confidently speaking about art and responding to works of art using creative writing techniques.

The programme supports strong relationships between Outside In artists and partner organisations, creating opportunities for artists to discover more about their local arts organisations and for arts organisations to diversify their exhibitions, collections and public programmes by working with artists from a range of different backgrounds.
