With just a week to go until Giving Tuesday here is a breakdown of what your donation can do to help the life changing work here at Outside In.

A key part of what we do is offering opportunities to artists who face significant barriers to the art world. One way we do this is by offering our Step Up series of professional training courses which aim to support artists to gain the skills needed to find employment, self-employment or volunteering opportunities in the arts.

Over the last decade, the courses have proven to help participants feel engaged with society, as well as view themselves and the future in a more positive manner. The sense of belonging to the Outside In community and working with partner organisations is seen to increase levels of self-esteem and wellbeing amongst participants, providing a sense of meaning and purpose and encouraging them to seek further – paid or voluntary – employment.

Currently, as part of the programme, Outside In works with partner arts organisations across the UK to deliver its five training courses: Exploring Collections, Workshop Leaders, Curating Exhibitions, Talking about Art and Creative Writing.

The difference the courses make

“It has definitely helped to open up a new chapter in my life. It has helped me gather more positive thoughts and gain self-confidence, as well as acknowledging the things that have shifted and improved in my life.” – Course participant

“The programme exceeded my expectations, getting me working again at a professional level. I am thinking about becoming self-employed, about teaching, progressing further, finding out about funding. It has refocused my professional practice and I have started to think about further professional opportunities. I think of myself as an artist again instead of a person that was unwell and doodled.” – Course participant

“This time last year it would have been unthinkable that an opportunity to become involved with the arts, through creative writing, would present itself. As a result of the course, the art of imagery both in painting and creative writing has become a passion of mine.” – Course participant

To help make a difference this Giving Tuesday, Outside In’s chosen donation platform CAF is offering all charities who get a donation on 27 November the chance to win an additional £250. To make a donation, click HERE
